A Well-Kept Classic Hatteras, Ready to Cruise
Mechanic-owned, exceptionally well maintained, and ready to enjoy, this 1975 Hatteras 43 Double Cabin is a terrific example of one of Hatteras' most enduring motor yacht designs.
Powered by twin Detroit Diesel 6-71 naturally aspirated engines with approximately 2,200 hours, she combines the simplicity and durability of naturally aspirated Detroits with the heavy fiberglass construction and practical cruising layout that made these boats so popular.
A generator with approximately 2,100 hours, two 16,000-BTU Webasto marine air-conditioning units, new batteries, and a well-cared-for interior make her equally appealing as a cruising boat, Great Loop platform, or comfortable liveaboard.
The interior is remarkably clean for her age. The Hatteras woodwork presents beautifully, the accommodations are spacious, and the traditional double-cabin arrangement provides genuine separation between the forward and aft sleeping areas.
She presently sleeps four comfortably. The large salon could also easily accommodate a sleeper sofa for owners wanting additional guest capacity.
Electronics are intentionally minimal. The current owner preferred using a portable navigation setup rather than continually updating permanently installed electronics. For a new owner, that leaves a clean slate to install the navigation package of their choice rather than paying for older equipment they may immediately want to replace.
The bottom was painted with Trinidad approximately five years ago. While the bottom paint should be refreshed at some point as part of normal maintenance, it remains in serviceable condition. This is not a boat that needs to go directly into a restoration yard before it can be enjoyed.

PROPULSION
The naturally aspirated Detroit 6-71 has long been valued for its straightforward mechanical design, durability, parts availability, and serviceability. The engine spaces aboard the 43 Double Cabin also benefit from the generous proportions typical of Hatteras yachts of this era.
ELECTRONICS & NAVIGATION
The vessel has a relatively simple permanently installed electronics package. This was intentional: the current owner generally preferred a portable navigation setup rather than investing in fixed electronics that quickly become dated.
For many buyers, this is actually an advantage. It provides the opportunity to select and install a modern chartplotter, radar, AIS and communications package based upon the boat's intended use rather than inheriting a collection of aging electronics.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The Hatteras 43 Double Cabin became popular in large part because of the remarkable amount of usable interior space created within a 43-foot hull.
The present arrangement provides sleeping accommodations for four, divided between the forward and aft cabin areas.
The salon is large, bright and comfortable, with ample room for entertaining or extended living aboard. A sleeper sofa could easily be incorporated to provide additional guest accommodations without compromising the usefulness of the salon.
Generous storage and the separation between the two cabin areas make the layout particularly well suited to couples cruising with guests, extended trips aboard, or full-time liveaboard use.
EXTERIOR & HULL
Hatteras earned its reputation during this era by building exceptionally substantial fiberglass yachts, and the 43 Double Cabin remains a favorite among owners who appreciate traditional construction, wide side decks, usable exterior spaces and a solid feel underway.
The bottom was painted approximately five years ago using Trinidad bottom paint. A refresh should be anticipated as part of future routine maintenance, but the boat is presently in good usable condition.
